1. Legal Update - Time is Our Friend
I wish I had some news. Nothing has changed. Looks like a long hot summer, as I remain hopeful that time is our friend, my wrongful conviction will be corrected and all your property will be returned.

2. Congress Wants 'Lady Liberty' on US coins
Much to the pleasure of many coin collectors, an image of 'Lady Liberty' could once again grace U.S. dimes, quarters and half dollars, but only if newly introduced legislation becomes law. Just imagine, Congress wants to imitate the Liberty Dollar by putting 'Lady Liberty' back on US coins! Imagine that!

3. "Commodity Disks" with QR Code Debut
Arlo J. Pignotti of Austin Texas, a long time Liberty Dollar supporter, has debuted his "Commodity Disks," a new alternate currency that features the first QR Code* on a private monetary instrument. (The 2011 Royal Dutch Mint five euro government coin included a QR Code but it had no functionality.) In contrast, Pignotti's ground breaking development allow private merchants to scan his one ounce silver Commodity Disk (CD) with a smart phone that links directly to his website for an up-to-the-instant Manufacture's Suggested Trade Value (MSTV). For obvious reasons, the MSTV includes the cost of silver, minting and overhead. Now, the merchant and customer can determine the actual trade value of specie at the moment of transaction with Pignotti's QR Code thus enabling the CD to function in the market place in sync with the current silver price and those dreaded Federal Reserve Notes.

Pignotti explained: "I wanted to experiment with something new, using the latest technology that everyone has at their fingertips with their smart phones - QR coded precious metals. Now consumers and/or merchants can scan silver, gold, copper, platinum and paper certificates backed with these materials with any smart phone and determine its current trade value."
The first issue of Commodity Discs were minted by the legendary North American Mint on industry standard 39mm one ounce .999 fine silver medallions. Additional info is available at: www.CommodityDiscs.Com

*QR code (Quick Response Code) is an optically machine-readable two-dimensional barcode that can be printed, attached to any item or now minted and scanned by a smart phone for additional product info i.e. its MSTV via a link to an Internet site. Use of a QR code enables the value of a currency or medallion to be based on the current market price vs. a static fixed face value.

4. Mulligan Mint Malarkey
In the May issue of this LDN, I reported on the questionable business practices of Rob Gary and his Mulligan Mint in an article titled: Crooked Minter Tarnishing Private Silver Reputation?

Now two months later, the questions seems to be getting clearer in a furry of lawsuits, court orders, audits and counter charges. While it is still not clear how this whole story will end, it is certainly clear that Gray, the only former disgraced RCO in the Liberty Dollar org, has his hands full. Plus he has continued to air engaging videos alleging no wrongdoing. Please review the links below and ask yourself if you wish to be associated with the Mulligan Mint and all its malarkey?

Breaking News: "Calling It Quits With Mulligan Mint" was posted by Jim Rawles at his SurvivalBlog.com on August 5, 2013.

Gray's problems took a serious turn for the worse when Republic Metals, his silver supplier, filed and received a Court Order barring the Mulligan Mint from moving or selling any of its 71,000 ounces of silver. Of course, that did not stop Gray, so the court made the restraining order permanent.

5. Two Federal Judges Speak out re the Government
Judge 'Troubled' by DOJ Position in Drone Strike Case
U.S. District Judge Rosemary Collyer repeatedly expressed concern that the government's position would essentially strip U.S. citizens abroad of their constitutional rights. "I'm really troubled…that you cannot explain to me where the end of it is," Collyer said. "That, yes, they have constitutional rights but there is no remedy for those constitutional rights." When Deputy Assistant Attorney General Brian Hauck argued that the "constitutional structure" enabled the executive and legislative branches to protect citizens' rights, Collyer pointed out that the US Constitution included three branches of government.

War on terror: Life, death and drones
John J. Gibbons, a director of a New Jersey law firm, and the former chief judge of the U.S. 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal, who represented Guantanamo Bay detainees in 2001 before the Supreme Court in Rasul vs. Bush, challenging President George W. Bush's claim that he could hold non-citizens at Guantanamo without judicial review based on the administration's unilateral claim that the detainees were enemies of the United States. He argued that the president's position presented a profound threat to the role of the courts in safeguarding the rule of law, and that the prisoners were entitled to due process, including judicial examination of the government's reasons for holding them. The Supreme Court agreed, reaffirming that an asserted "state of war is not a blank check" for the executive branch when civil liberties are at stake. Now, President Obama, like Bush, has defied the Supreme Court.

6. Gold is Down - But Interest is Up
It seems like the down gold market has fired up even more interest in the noble yellow metal. And well it should. Excellent buying opportunity and just ahead of the biggest bull market to date. Here is a collection of timely articles.

Golden Slumbers by Kenneth Rogoff
This article by Ken Rogoff references his and Carmen Reinhart landmark book, This Time Is Different - Eight Centuries of Financial Folly. Of course, this time is not different. For that reason Rogoff remains "incredibly cynical about governments" and so should you. Gold is your best protection (but silver will give you more profits:).

7. Gold Standard in the News
Steve Forbes Talks Gold on Kitco News
Steve Forbes: "You don't try to stimulate the economy by increasing the number of minutes in an hour. It's a fixed measure. Like a ruler, a gold standard would be a guide to help determine the value of the currency…" As to where the price of gold should be, Forbes also said "…the market should determine the value; however, the [gold] price has been skewed because of the Federal Reserve's aggressive quantitative-easing measures."

The Rise and Fall of the Gold Standard in the United States by George Selgin

This is an excellent, well-researched paper by one of the top free market economists in the United States. Selgin's conclusion speaks volumes re the role of the private free market and the future Gold Standard:
The breakdown in the credibility of central bank exchange rate commitments since World War I cannot be easily repaired, if it can be repaired at all. Consequently, nothing short of the removal of responsibility for enforcing such commitments from public or semi-public authorities to the private sector-that is, a return to private and competitive currency issuance is likely to be capable of establishing a robust and sustainable gold standard.

8. Bitcoin Explained
Still confused about the Bitcoin. Here is an excellent article by long time alternate monetary advocate, Mark Herpel.

Bitcoin, Regulators and Online Markets - a look at the World of Bitcoin Exchanges
Exchanges are the links between the old world of banking and the new world of crypto-currencies; they play a vital role in supporting the growing Bitcoin economy. If Bitcoin hopes to continue rapidly gaining new users it needs this bridge between the old and new systems to be up and functioning.

Meanwhile, Bitcoin has been blocked in Thailand after officials declared the virtual currency illegal in a setback for efforts to bring it into the financial mainstream.

10. How Nancy Pelosi Saved the NSA and Screwed Americans

Is there anything good to say about Trash Pelosi? Again she does the devil's work by sabotaging Congress' attempt of protecting American's right to privacy. Total disgrace!
How Nancy Pelosi Saved the NSA Surveillance Program

Closing Remarks:
Many thanks for your continued support. For it is only by banding together and adopting a free and independent currency that provides us with "just weights and measures" that we will be able to throw off the yoke of a manipulated monetary/tax system and generate a peaceful and prosperous society.

Thank you again for all your efforts to return America to value - one dollar at a time!
